This is a very busy unit and very popular amongst the T&O trainees due to the experience offered

Consultants

  • Shoulder - Mr Brownlow & Prof Levy
  • Hands -  Mr Pailthorpe & Rahimtoola
  • Foot & Ankle - Mr Nugent & Arvind
  • Paeds / knee -  Mr Dodds & Davies
  • Knee / sport injuries - Mr O'leary
  • Hip / Knee - Mr Andrade / Tavares
  • Hip - Mr Morley / Mr Pollard / Mr Gilbody (locum) / Mr Malik (locum)
  • Trauma - Mr McAndrew & Macleod
  • Spines - Mr McKenna / Mr Rajagopal / Mr Shah (locum)

8 consultants are on for trauma while the others do pure elective

Juniors

  •  14 person middle grade rota comprising CT/ST3+, staff grades and fellow
    • on call pattern with day off afterwards
  • 12 person junior rota cover from F1 to CT2 level #
    • full shift

Workload

  • Fracture clinic  every morning at RBH. Usually very busy (50-80 patients)
    • weekly Newbury # clinic, and 3 paeds # clinics /week
  • Trauma Lists - all day list 6 days/week, with half day session on sundays
    • good opportunities for operating independently, and good spectrum of cases
  • NOF Lists - 3 mornings 1st week, 2 mornings 2nd week
  • Elective - varies according to team, but ample opportunities for clinics and elective lists in all teams

Theatres

  • 5 dedicated T&O theatre - 1 trauma / 4 elective

Wards

  • Hunter / Lister - Trauma admissions
  • Redlands - elective admissions
  • Day Admissions Unit
