Theatre facilities and timetable

All paediatric theatres lists are held at the JR West Wing

TT  - monday all day

AW - Tuesday all day

RB - Thursday all day

There are also some young adult lists, mainly TT, held at the NOC a couple of Thursday's a month

All consultants are very good at providing operating opportunities in theatre, and paediatric cases often rack up multiple operative procedures when recording your logbook, which is very good for your ISCP targets

Particularly good teaching opportunities

CP clinic Tuesday - excellent MDT setting with great learning opportunities

Gait lab analysis meeting - very good grounding for the FRCS Orth

Wednesday am clinic - rather daunting at first but uniquely good experience

Friday am  is generally kept clear for departmental teaching which is Registrar led, and they are very flexible to work around whichever topics, techniques that suit the trainees at the time (viva prep, general paeds knowledge, ponseti casting etc)

·    Top Tips

Form good links with the general paeds team at the JR, as they often help out with some ward work out of hours, and when the SHO is away

Be prepared for the x-ray requests writing prior to the clinics, but Wed morning clinic can be particularly big and best done in advance

Use the additional physio, gait lab, USS hips sessions for additional teaching

Beware of the lack of mobile signal at the JR West Wing - check for messages before heading back home or to the NOC
